The Planning Department serves the citizens of Abingdon with planning and zoning needs, from the conceptions and planning stages of a project through the construction. The department provides long range comprehensive planning policies, review of development plans, business and building permits and enforces the Zoning Ordinance and the Design guidelines of the Board of Architectural Review, as well as the preservation of the Town’s historically significant features.
Through partnership with the community, the planning department strives to manage growth and promote the highest quality of development by articulating the community vision; providing information and creative recommendations based on sounds planning, building and engineering practices and explain and enforcing regulations.
