The department of Finance and Accounting is responsible for the collection for all funds coming into the Town. The types of funds collected are utility payments, tax payments for real and personal property, yard sale permits, business licenses, and various outside sources of funds from Washington County, the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States Treasury.
This department is also responsible for paying all expenses for the Town. The types of expenses paid are accounts payable invoices and processing payroll on a biweekly basis from town employees. The Town of Abingdon at this time has 139 full times plus many part time employees. The Finance/Accounting department also assists the Town Manager in the yearly budget process which includes a General Fund and Sewer Fund balanced budget.
Mark Godbey resides in Abingdon, Virginia and has been employed with the Town for 17 years. He has a Bachelor of Science in Business Education (Major: Accounting) from East Tennessee State University and an AAS in Accounting from Virginia Highlands Community College.
